Instructions for Conference Hosts and Venues
Here’s what hosts and commercial venues need to do for their Conference discussions.
Hosts
Congratulations! People from all over are going to gather at a time and place of your choosing to talk about something that you want to talk about, a topic of your choosing. What could be better?
Your topic, time, and place will appear on the Conference calendar, printed and circulated in the real, physical world, right here in the East Bay. (There’s also an online version, which is where you’re reading this.)
But there are a few things that you need to do to make this happen:
- Decide on a name and short description for your topic, collaborating with the editor (at hosts@confcal.org).
- Get access to the Conference planning spreadsheet. Email hosts@confcal.org for the link.
- Decide on a date and time for your discussion, checking the spreadsheet that it doesn’t conflict with others.
- Pick a venue for your discussion, and OK it with the venue if needed; see the spreadsheet for choices or add your own.
- Invite your pals or anyone else who might be interested.
- At the discussion:
- Arrive on time.
- Make sure people will be able to identify you (e.g. carry a calendar, wear a leaf).
- Welcome the folks who come to talk about your topic.
- Have fun!
Venues
Congratulations! Your venue will be listed on the Conference calendar, sparking people from all over to gather there and become paying customers as they talk about something. Here’s what you need to do to make this happen:
- Nothing! Just be open at your normal time, and expect some increased patronage.
